The requirement for becoming a deputy sheriff is that you need to be at least 21 years of age. You must have a high school diploma or have completed your GED. Although formal education is not required in some counties, it may set you apart from the rest of the staff if you do have a degree.

You must not have any previous felonies or any crimes on your record that are deemed serious. You must be able to pass a polygraph test and take a psychological evaluation.
