By increasing your own marketing efforts, you ll gain more exposure in their absence. Remember, there are people who are willing to buy your products. So, you want to be a success? And you want those who work for you to succeed? Then you might as well know the (bad ?) news. Successful, effective people are courageous people!

Aristotle said courage is the primary human virtue. And the ultimate courage is to accept what philosopher Peter Koestenbaum calls life s dirty little secret ?that we are all free to choose. We are all free to decide what we desire, how we act, how we feel and who we are.

Many poor to moderate performers I see in organizations simply refuse to accept accountability for their job and career. Ask them what they want?besides more money?in their job or how satisfied they are with their current performance and they come up with fuzzy answers or none at all. This does not surprise me. If they were clear, they would have to admit to the choices they are making in their job.

Employees who refuse accountability cost our organizations a bundle. Precious time and energy shifts from productive work to holding on to the old ways, blaming other people or circumstances, doing unquestioningly whatever the boss wants, and avoiding confrontations or any risk. ( Hey, why should I do anything extra? It won t matter to them, anyway. )

Furthermore, when you believe you have no control?that is, no choice?over your fate at work, you feel angry and resentful. Someone else, or perhaps fate itself, is calling the shots for you. This resentment gets expressed, usually through negative comments, barely satisfactory work and/or withholding important information, ideas, effort and enthusiasm.

How can you take on personal accountability at work?

Here are four suggestions.

1. Identify all your customers and what they expect from you. Your key customer is your boss. Don t wait. Ask for his or her performance expectations for you. Approach other internal and external customers the same way. Check in periodically on how you are doing in their eyes. amp #8232;

2. Decide on the performance level you want to achieve. Unless impossible, it should exceed others expectations. Verbally commit to deliver this performance to your customers . Stay focused on priorities that move you to these goals. amp #8232;

3. Solicit feedback frequently and learn from it always. The best companies do this with their customers. Ask your manager and others with whom you work something like: amp #8232; amp #8232; How am I doing in your eyes? amp #8232; What could I do at my end to make this relationship work better for you?

If I were to do one thing more (or less) to make myself more effective/productive/easy to work with, what would that be? amp #8232;

4. Where appropriate, own up to undelivered performance. Don t shift the blame onto others. Instead, focus on what you can do differently the next time.

Individual accountability offers an extremely powerful leverage point for increasing human productivity. Embrace it. Challenge your people to as well. Think and act as if you are in business for yourself, with an open ended contract with a single client (your employer). Yesterday I took my kids to the Miami Seaquarium, and while there

I discovered a major flaw in the way most chiropractors think

about one of the most powerful chiropractic

marketing methods available to them.

While strolling from one salt water tank display to the next, I

came across a tank with, what was to me, a very interesting and

eye-opening explanation next to it.

I don't remember what the heck was in the tank, but I'll never

forget what was next to it.

This little plaque on the wall explained the relationship between

a host and a parasite.

I'm assuming that whatever was in the tank was a parasitic

organism living off some type of host, also in the tank.

Now, please keep in mind that some chiropractic marketing gurus

talk about joint ventures with other local businesses in your

area - an incredibly powerful chiropractic marketing method - as

a host/parasite relationship.

The host being the business owner who you're approaching for an

endorsement (with a loyal list of customers, clients, members,

etc.), and you, the parasite, feeding off of the goodwill and

endorsement the business owner gives you to his or her list.

Frankly, I'll even confess, I may have even taught it this way at

one point or another.

However, after reading the definition displayed on that little

plaque at the Seaquarium, of what a parasite really is, I'll

never explain this chiropractic marketing method that way again.

See if you can pick out the major flaw in creating joint ventures

when you approach them based on the definition of what a parasite

really is.

Here's the definition:

PARASITE: an organism that grows, feeds, and is sheltered on or

in a different organism while contributing nothing to the

survival of its host.

And, according to the American Heritage dictionary, here's

another definition: One who habitually takes advantage of the

generosity of others without making any useful return.

Hopefully, the flaw is quite obvious to you.

You see, when most chiropractors approach other business owners

or operators about doing a joint venture, they approach them with

the mindset and attitude of, "what can this person do for me".

Their whole entire approach to this powerful chiropractic

marketing method is, "let me see how many other businesses I can

get to endorse my business and help me make more money."

They have absolutely no concern for the owner's business or

enhanced success through the joint venture.

And, it's because of that exact parasitic mindset, that most

chiropractors either struggle to get joint ventures, or never end

up getting any at all.

Meanwhile, there's no more powerful chiropractic marketing or

practice-building method in existence than the joint venture.

When done right, with consistency, joint ventures can grow your

chiropractic practice quicker and larger than anything else out

there... and do it with zero advertising expense.

But, the first step to reaping the rewards of joint ventures, is

leaving behind the mindset of a parasite.

In other words, forget the idea of what other business owners and

operators can do for you.

Instead, think about what you can do for them FIRST.

The absolute best way to create and nurture very profitable joint

ventures, is to seek out non- competitive business owners and

approach them to see how you can help THEM build their businesses

and make more money.

Start by doing something of value for them.

Don't ask for anything in return.

Give value first. Help them first. Make them more money first.

Then, when it comes time for you to talk with them about

endorsing you and your chiropractic practice to their customers,

patients, clients, etc., it will be a very simple and quick

conversation.

In essence, the key to using this chiropractic marketing method

and creating solid, profitable joint ventures - that lead to a

whole heck of a lot of new patients and $$ - is to NOT approach

business owners from the perspective of setting up a business

relationship.

Instead, reach out and see how you can start a relationship with

them based on you adding value to their lives and businesses.

When you do, you won't even know what to do with all of the joint

venture opportunities you have to choose from.

When that happens, you'll watch your practice grow by leaps and

As the truck pulled out in front of me, I sat there for a few minutes

thinking, "Hmmmm, maybe Trane is the type of air conditioner they

install.

Maybe it's the certification company behind their staff. Maybe it's

the

tools or machine they use to fix people's air conditioner. Or, maybe

it's

the name of their parent company or something." It wasn't until

many hours

later that I found out what they meant by "Trane", when... like the

computer nerd I am... I went online and Google'd it.

Fact of the matter is, how many people who see that truck, do you

think

actually take the time to find out what their tagline means by going

online

and doing some research? What do you think... uhhh.... maybe...

NONE! (With

the exception of the token person like me who has an insane

passion for

marketing.)

So, what's that mean exactly to the company with the tagline?

Well,that

unless someone's an air conditioning insider, they're not going to

have a

clue what that tagline is supposed to mean to them, so the

company's hard-

earned advertising dollars are completely wasted.

It's a mistake soooo many companies and professionals make in

their

marketing, chiropractors included. They make the mistake of trying

to be

cute in their chiropractic marketing instead of trying to be

compelling.

Rule #1 with your chiropractic marketing: It's better to be

compelling and

benefit-driven than it is just to be cute simply for cuteness sake.

Personally, I think this idea of crafting a memorable tagline has it's

roots in the brand advertising approach of many of the Fortune

500

companies.

Therapists see the way lots of big companies have these neat little

cutesy

taglines, and they follow in their footsteps with the creation of a

similar-style tagline for their practice.

Unfortunately, what most chiropractors don't understand is that

those big

Fortune 500 companies have a different aim and objective with

their

advertising than that of the typical chiropractor.

While the average chiropractor wants a response from their

chiropractic

marketing (i.e. new patients), the big companies are using these

taglines

in their advertising, NOT because they want response, but

because they're

after brand recognition.

Funny thing is, most of the time, marketing research shows that

even though

we remember lots of taglines, we don't always remember the

company who it

belongs to. Not only that, but, in many marketing studies, results

show

that even on the occasion that we do remember the company the

tagline

belongs to, we don't necessairly purchase any of their products or

services, and certainly not MORE products or services because of

the

tagline.

So, when using a cute, memorable tagline, companies may get

some additional

"recognition", but they don't necessarily generate additional

customers or

sales. Meanwhile, that's the entire point of your chiropractic

marketing:

to get new patients. Period.

Everything you include in your chiropractic marketing, should

increase the

response you're aiming for (i.e. generate you more leads, more

new

chiropractic patients, more referrals, etc.). So, how do you do that

with

your tagline, if you're using one?

Well, for one, don't try to come up with a tagline that people will

remember. Instead, come up with a tagline for your practice that

conveys a

big promise and desired benefit to your target market. In other

words, if

you're going to use a tagline, use a tagline that states the big

unique

benefit prospective patients are going to get with you that they

won't from

any other chiropractor.

Give prospective patients a powerful reason, in your tagline, to

choose

your chiropractic practice for their care. Be crystal clear in what

patients get with you that they don't elsewhere.

When in doubt, say it like it is. Again, it's always better to be clear

and

concise, than it is to try and be cute, and lose the clarity of your

chiropractic marketing message. Always remember, your goal when

using a

tagline is to make chiropractic WITH YOU more enticing, more

interesting,

more beneficial, and more unique.

Returning, quickly, to our earlier example, here are three ways the

air

conditioning company could have improved significantly on their

"Nothing

Stops A Trane" tagline:

"The Only Air Conditioning Unit You Never Have To Worry About"

Done right, this chiropractic marketing approach actually

requires LESS WORK and LESS TIME than what you're probably

doing right now.

Here's how it works:

First, take a look at the report of findings you do with

prospective patients.

Maybe it's a formal report of findings.

Or, maybe it's more of an informal consultation or process

you bring prospective patients through.

Regardless, how many of the prospective chiropractic

patients you meet with in a given week are actually coming

into your office "PRE- SOLD" on chiropractic care with you?

In other words, how many are coming in to your office having

already decided they want chiropractic care with you and are

ready to write your office a check immediately?

For most doctors, not many.

Most chiropractors rely on some type of report of findings

to show prospective patients why they need chiropractic

care.

Most doctors are thrilled to get prospective patients into

their office for some type of appointment. This way they can

bring them through some type of report of findings and

hopefully convince them of the value of chiropractic care.

But, frankly, this way of trying to convert prospective

patients into paying patients is incredbily inefficient,

wastes tons of time, and burns out a lot of chiropractors.

If you're at all like most chiropractors, this is similar to

how you feel about the typical way chiropractors are taught

to meet with prospective patients.

It just stinks!

But, thank goodness, there's a better, more effective,

easier way.

Here it is:

Make sure every prospective patient who walks into your

office, comes in already PRE-SOLD on chiropractic care with

you and ready to invest (financially) in their health.

Stop meeting with people you have to "sell" on the value of

chiropractic care.

That's just nuts.

You're not a salesman or saleswoman, right?

That's not why you got into chiropractic care, right? To

sell?

Instead, make sure you only meet with prospective patients

who are "sold" on getting chiropractic care with you,

*BEFORE* they ever walk in your door.

This way, your report of findings, your persuasion skills,

and your "sales skills" are all irrelevant.

This way you don't have to be a "smooth talker", you don't

have to "sell".

Because when people are coming in to your office PRE-SOLD on

chiropractic care with you, it's no longer about how good

you do a report of findings. Or, how persuasive you are when

talking about chiropractic.

They've already decided they want to become your patient...

BEFORE you've said one word to them.

So, how do you do that, you're wondering?

How do you pre-sell prospective patients before they walk in

your door?

You do it with your marketing, that's how.

Always remember, the purpose of your marketing is to make

"selling chiropractic" unnecessary.

In other words, the purpose of your marketing is to bring

people into your office pre-sold on chiropractic care with

you, so you DON'T have to do any "selling".

Think about it like this...

Have you ever purchased anything where you knew you were

going to buy it before you walked in the store?

If so, you were PRE-SOLD.

I'm sure in that instance your purchase had nothing to do

with any sales presentation or something the clerk said to

you, right?

You walked in there ready to buy... ready to invest.

And, because of that, someone "selling you" was completely

unnecessary.

When your marketing does that for you... when it brings

people in pre-sold... meeting with prospective patients and

growing your practice become extremely fun (and lucrative)!

This is why you should never just throw together marketing

for your practice.

It's certainly why you should also never avoid marketing,

that's for sure.

Because doing either simply sets you up to meet with people

that are going to need to be SOLD by you on chiropractic

care.

And, when that happens you waste a lot of time, convert far

less people into paying patients, and make a lot less money.

Meanwhile, other doctors are chuckling with delight.

What price increase am I referring too, and why are some doctors

excited while others are totally bummed?

Mostly these side effects go away as the treatment is over as the healthy cells recover and grow back over time. The time of recovery from the side effects of chemotherapy and regaining the energy varies from person to person and depends on many things like your health on the whole and the drugs you were treated with.

Sometimes the chemotherapy effects go very quickly and could also take months or even years to get over. Some drugs cause damage to the cells of the heart, lungs, kidneys and reproductive system and so a person could suffer from these side effects of chemotherapy for life.
