Dos And Don'ts For A Career Changer

Dos And Don'ts For A Career Changer
There are as many new career options as there is new career advice, but if one follows a few basic ground rules, he or she can make that switch to a new career without too much of difficulty. To begin with, one must figure out if what one needs is a change of job or a change of career. While a job change can be accomplished without much ado, a career change creates quite an upheaval in one's life and hence must be handled with care. A well-formulated plan is extremely important for the successful execution of a career change.

Preparedness

Rushing into a new career without weighing all the factors that have led you to take such a decision may prove to be a risky proposition. Take the time to examine your existing career - some of the negating factors you are considering may be transitory. So think well before you throw in the towel. Focus on the advantages and disadvantages in your current system and weigh them against the things you like and dislike in your new career. One might have to put in a great deal of time and effort while changing over to a new career. You could be assailed by feelings of insecurity during the transition as things tend to progress very slowly. Nonetheless, one has to take it in a stride as these are normal during the course of a career change.

Take Advantage Of Transferable Skills

You could leverage some of the skills and experiences from your current career to your new career. That is not to say that one must restrict oneself to similar careers when taking up a new career. Ideally, a new career which would partially employ skills from your previous career would give you an edge in tackling your new job rather than having to start on something totally alien to you.

Additional Training And Education

While skills from previous career may help, you may have to get extra training or education to give you a competitive edge in your new career. That said, avoid jumping headlong into an educational program-weigh the various options available and start slowly. If there is any possibility of gaining first-hand experience in your new field before actually starting on your new career, grab the opportunity. You could either do it as voluntary work or as part-time job. This would greatly enhance your confidence, experience and also help you establish contacts in your new career.

Other Marketing Tools To Help In Your New Career

A good resume is as important a marketing tool in your employment search as is your strong interviewing skills. Timely follow-up is also important in ensuring success in your quest for a new career. This involves calling potential employers and requesting for an interview as part of the follow-up process. Today, many employers resort to telephonic or on-line interviews. Returning telephone calls or e-mails and writing acceptance letters are also equally important in the follow-through process.

Starting Your Own Business

Many career change seekers dream of starting a venture, but lack the courage to make a beginning. Fear is what holds you back from chasing your dreams. But unless you overcome your fear of venturing into the unknown, you will never make that profound difference to your life. So, the first step to starting out on your own would be to make a thorough study of what you are venturing into. Attend classes, read publications and do whatever it takes to get a solid grip. This way your risks would seem less risky.

Flexibility

As far as new career advice goes, being flexible is paramount when you are starting on a new career, which means you may have to make compromises on job titles, remuneration, relocation, etc.

Draw From Job Ads To Create Your Resume

Draw From Job Ads To Create Your Resume
You are probably like most people when it comes to describing what you do on a day-to-day basis. You are on autopilot. You can do your job with your eyes closed because it is fairly routine with the exception of a few special projects.

So why do you draw a blank when it comes to writing your resume? Sure, you can cover the basics, such as the industry, the products involved and maybe even touch on the types of clients and department you work in.

But what about really getting into the nitty-gritty about the scope of your responsibilities? Do you know how to break it down and align it with the requirements of a position?

This exercise is designed to help you work it out. Let's review a job ad for a nurse.

* Must have experience assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating pediatric patient care within a large medical facility.

* Must have experience planning for expected outcomes of care for those patients assigned.

* Must have experience performing interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and hospital policies.

* Must have experience promoting interpersonal relations with patients, family, and physicians.

* Must have experience communicating pertinent information about patient, nursing unit, and activities as appropriate.

If you were a nurse who had to write a resume, you might compose the following statements:

* Provide exceptional nursing care to patients.

* Work well with patients, families and nurses.

* Report problems to physicians requiring immediate attention.

So, what is missing from this information? In reviewing the requirements, you can see that it is too general and does not provide enough detail to qualify for a position in a particular unit, within a certain type of medical facility and working with a specific patient population.

Many people might prescribe to the theory that nursing is nursing. But this is simply not the case. A nurse works in either a private practice setting, a nursing home or a large medical center. He or she can work in any one of numerous specialty units such as pediatrics, critical care, Operating Room or Medical Surgical. The list of units is extensive.

Would a hospital searching for a pediatrics nurse quality this job seeker for the position? Chances are they would be more likely to quality the job seeker who wrote the following in his or her resume:

* Provide quality pre- and post-operative care to 8-12 pediatric patients on a busy pediatrics unit with 40 beds.

* Collaborate with medical and mental health teams to identify and manage patients' and family needs.

* Develop patient care plans and discharge plans.

* Coordinate patient admissions and transfers.

* Educate patients and their families with a focus on expectation, prevention, medication, at-home care and pain management techniques.

Now the reader can see what the patient population is, the type of unit, and the scope of responsibilities. This is only a brief to make a point.

To take it further, examine each requirement and think about what you do along those lines. Modify the sentences to make them your own and real. The requirements are an excellent tool to help you identify what you do, and to find great key words. In the end, you will be giving the reader what they are looking for in a candidate.

Drafting A Cover Letter That Will Complement Your Resume

Drafting A Cover Letter That Will Complement Your Resume
Most job applications are made up of two documents, the resume and the cover letter. A lot has been written about resume writing. The same cannot be said however about cover letter writing. Out of the two, the resume is definitely the most important document. It contains the substance of your candidacy. Does that mean that the cover letter should be downplayed? No. The cover letter should be viewed as complementing the resume. A resume without an accompanying cover letter would not be viewed by most recruiters as a complete job application.

Think of a resume this way. It is a document which purports to describe, as ?objectively? as possible, your qualifications, including your education, work experience and professional background. Objectively was put in quotes because, although a resume should be written in the third person and, therefore, may sound objective, it is in fact very subjective as it reflects your views as to what your qualifications are. As impressive as a resume can be, it cannot convey one?s interest in a position. Further, some things cannot be said in a resume, yet, could be relevant or of interest to the recruiter. While a resume is relatively rigid in its construction, a cover letter is much more flexible and allows a candidate to put his or her personal touch to a job application. Hence, the function of a cover letter: to introduce, amplify and/or draw attention to specific aspects of a resume.

If there is something you?d like to convey, but can?t do it through your resume, the cover letter is there to give you that latitude. Smart job applicants will not miss the opportunity to fully utilize a cover letter to highlight their candidacy and prepare the ground for their resume.

Far from repeating what?s already in the resume, a cover letter should complement the resume. While a resume reflects what you have done in the past mainly, the cover letter can connect your qualifications with what you can bring to the new job you are applying to. It can serve as an expression of your interest in the position; not only stating that you are interested, but also why. In that regard, employers would rather hire someone a little less qualified but upbeat about the job than a qualified candidate that doesn?t necessarily show the same interest.

A cover letter is especially important for candidates that may not have as much experience or qualifications as other candidates. The initial screening process can be very subjective and recruiters may not necessarily have a pre determined checklist as to what they are looking for. Want a wild card? Seize your opportunity through your cover letter.

One last word of advice: as mentioned above, a cover letter should be viewed as complementing the resume it is accompanying. The two should be viewed as a pair, so they should have the same general formatting and layout.

We hope the above will help you in your job search. Good luck!

Draw In A New Customer Base By Allowing Your Spa Customers To Book Appointments Online

Draw In A New Customer Base By Allowing Your Spa Customers To Book Appointments Online
If you own a spa business and you haven?t yet implemented a system that lets your customers book their appointments at the spa online what are you waiting for? There are a lot of advantages that come with allowing customers to book appointments at the spa online. One of the biggest benefits is customer satisfaction. Customers these days do as much as they can online to eliminate the need to spend more time on the phone or more time driving. When customers are multi tasking at work giving them the opportunity to book a spa treatment while they are on the phone doing their jobs is a great way to entice them to spend money at your spa.

Allowing customers to book their spa appointments online is also a huge benefit to your business because you can draw in a whole new customer base. Travelers that are planning vacations, honeymoons and other trips love having the opportunity to make all of their travel plans online, including having the chance to book their spa treatments online to make sure that they get an appointment on a day when they will be in your city. Travelers that booking spa appointments online might not be in the time zone where your business is located so they might not always be able to call for an appointment but if they can book a spa appointment online at any time of the day or night they will be much more likely to make an appointment at your spa.

An added benefit to allowing customers this feature is the time you will save for you or your staff being on the phone or at the check in desk booking these appointments with your clients. You?ll no longer be stuck on the phone chit chatting with your client while they are booking their appointment. You and your staff can focus on more important tasks like satisfying the customers that are already there for their appointment.

So if you?re searching for new ways to get customers into your spa and you haven?t yet installed a system that lets customers book their spa appointments online you should get some price quotes from professionals to see how much it would cost to add one to your website. No matter what the cost is it would be a great investment in your business and could bring in an entirely new customer base. Once you have a system in place that lets customers book their appointments online you could also start advertising in travel magazines or on travel websites or partnering with local hotels to increase the amount of customers that you get who are tourists to your area.

If you have a website and allow booking from there, you may consider engaging in a search engine marketing campaign to drive more traffic and prospective clients to your site. Whether you are using online marketing or offline promotions, always remember to include your website address where your clients can book their appointments online on every piece of literature that goes out of your store.

5 Steps To Overcoming Job Loss

5 Steps To Overcoming Job Loss
Were you recently laid off from your job? Are you confused about where to go from here? Follow these five steps to emotional and financial freedom!

1. Rejoice in your new-found time

If you were just laid off, contact the unemployment office to begin receiving weekly checks. Then, rejoice! When was the last time you were able to sleep in an extra hour? Finish that project you started last year? Take your son or daughter to school? Walk the dog in the middle of the day? Finish going through the piles of paperwork in your office? The possibilities are endless. Consider this the mini-vacation you couldn't take when you were employed, and make sure to get the rest and relaxation you deserve!

2. Go back to all the things you loved doing before your J-O-B

Remember that hobby you had before you got hired two, five, ten or twenty years ago? The one you set aside because there was too much work to do? It's time to get back into it. Are you a photographer? An athlete? A fisherman at heart? Something else? Doing what you love clears your mind and opens up new possibilities. And people who do things they love lead longer, happier, healthier lives.

3. Reconsider Your Worth

How much did you make at your job? If you were there for any amount of time, chances are, you deserve a lot more than what you made. Think about all the skills you've amassed over the years, as well as all the experience you gained. Then, create a new idea of what you should be getting every month. Be happy that you no longer have to accept low pay for your high-level skills and abilities.

4. Get Refocused

After you get a little bit of mental rest, get refocused and take the steps necessary to secure your emotional freedom. Make a list of the things you enjoy, and then the things you never want to do again. Make a promise to yourself that you will learn from your experiences and never again accept a career that will take you away from what you really love, or force you to deal with things you despise.

5. Consider Starting an Online Business

Chances are, once you get some much-needed rest and actually take time to reflect on your previous life, you will find that staying home is a much nicer option than working for someone else and dealing with the commute, dress code, rules, micromanagement, and stress of yet another impending lay off. Take some time to research opportunities and find a business you can run from home, online. Consider what you love doing, and make sure this business will leave you with enough money and free time for it.

Don?t Steal My Information

Don?t Steal My Information
It?s important to take precautions to protect you and your products from information theft these days, because it?s getting easier and easier for people to share digital products. Information theft is a computer security risk and it?s defined as stealing an individual?s personal or confidential information.

When this is stolen this can cause as much damage, or possibly more than hardware or software theft. Business or home users are both at risk of information theft. One example is a malicious individual stealing credit card details so they can make unauthorized purchases on another person?s account.

If information is transmitted over a network then there is a very high chance that malicious users may intercept the information. Every computer in the path of your data can see what you send, which means hackers can also see what you send.

A lot of companies try to stop information from being stolen by applying some user identification and authentication controls. These constraints are best for protecting computers inside a company?s premises. However, to protect information on the Internet and on networks, companies use a handful of encryption methods.

Encryption refers to the process of converting data into an unreadable format. One type of encryption software is Obfuscated code which is a programming language that is extremely hard to read. Encrypted data is like any other data because you can send it through a lot of options, but to read it you must decrypt or decipher it into a more readable form. Throughout the encryption process, the unencrypted data or input is known as plain text and the encrypted data, or output is known as ciphertext. To encrypt information, the programmer converts the plaintext into ciphertext using some type of encryption key. An encryption key is the programmed formula that the person who receives the data uses to decrypt the ciphertext.

There are a variety of encryption or algorithm methods. However, with an encryption key formula, you will be using more than one of these techniques.

Some business use available software, while others develop their own. When an individual sends information online such as through an email for example, they will never know who might intercept it, or to whom it could possibly be forwarded to. That?s why it?s not such a good idea to send confidential information online. However, an individual can help protect themselves by encrypting the information, or signing it digitally. Some very popular email encryption software is known as Pretty Good Piracy (PGP) and Centurion Soft Secure Protection.

Pretty Good Piracy is freeware, which means that individuals can use it for their personal needs but not for commercial purposes. You can download this for no cost. A digital signature is a type of encrypted code that an individual, website, or company pastes into an electronic document to make sure that the individual is who they claim to be. The code will most likely consist of the user name and a hash of usually part of the message.

A hash is a type of mathematical formula that generates content from a specific message, so it is different from a message. The recipient will have to generate a new hash from the received message and compares it from the one with the digital signature to make sure that they match appropriately. The main purpose behind using digital signatures is to make sure that it?s not a deceiver participating in the transaction. So, digital signatures help narrow down e-mail scams.

A digital signature can also make sure that the content of a message has not been changed. In the past, a lot of web browsers used 40 bit encryption, which was a very low level. However, most browsers nowadays offer 128 bit encryption which has a higher level of protection because the encryption key is longer.

Some important places that require extremely hire security like banks, and online retailers, need at least 128-bit encryption. A website that successfully uses encryption methods to secure information is known as a secure site.

A secure site uses a digital certificate with security protocol. The two most popular security protocols are secure sockets layer, and secure HTTP. A digital certificate is a notice that verifies that a user or a website is for real and not a scam. A lot of ecommerce websites will usually have digital certificates.

A certificate authority (CA) is an authorized company or individual for that matter that has the ability to issue and verify digital certificates. Some popular ones are Verisign, Godaddy, Digicert and Thawte.

The digital certificate will usually contain information such as the username and the serial number of the certificate. By the way, the information in the digital certificate is also encrypted.

Next, the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) provides encryption of every detail that passes between a server and a client. SSL also requires the client to have a digital certificate, so the web browser can communicate securely with the client. The web pages that use SSL will usually begin with https as opposed to http. SSL is available in 40 and 128-bit encryption.

Secured HTTP (S-HTTP) allows individuals to choose encryption for data that passes through a client and a server. When using S-HTTP, the client and the server must have a digital certificate. This makes S-HTTP more difficult to use then SSL, but on the other hand, it is more secured.

Companies that have to verify a client such as online banking companies use S-HTTP. Also, mobile users can also access computer networks through a virtual private network. When mobile users successfully logon to a main office using some type of standard Internet connection, a virtual private network (VPN) allows the mobile user to secure the connection.

VPNs encrypt data as it passes from a notebook computer or any other mobile device so it won?t be intercepted. Regardless of your security method, I will highly recommend using the most powerful safeguard which is a backup. It prevents data loss from several sources such as system failure for one. A backup is simply a backup of a file, program, or desk that can be used in place of the original if it is lost, destroyed, or corrupted. If the files are destroyed, then you can replace them by restoring, which copies the backed up files into their original position in the computer.

Don?t Build A Business In Pendle Lancashire Without Networking

Don?t Build A Business In Pendle Lancashire Without Networking
The M65 motorway meanders through the valley crossing swords with the canal as if in competition with the transport medium of a bygone age. The motorway is busy every morning and evening with traffic leaving and returning to the area, Pendle Lancahire being an employment blackspot and an entrepreneurial vacuum.

The area known as Pendle Lancashire includes the towns of Accrington, Burnley Nelson and Colne, once bustling mill towns but now left to despair. Even in the heady days of full employment, Pendle Lancashire wasn?t short on poverty given the industrial heritage of the cotton mills but today it has to be worse.

High unemployment, poor infrastructure and lack of hope fill the air. Less than 10 miles to the North over Pendle hill lies the affluent Ribble Valley so what is it that confines this area to a downtrodden destiny?

It was the late Tony Wilson of Factory records fame (Joy Division, New Order and The Hacienda) that christened the area Pendle Lancashire in an attempt to give it a second chance and had it not been for his untimely death maybe we?d be further on the way?

I paint a less than rosy picture but my intention is not to spread doom, gloom and despair throughout the epicentre of East Lancashire because there is hope and there are people out there trying to make a difference.

One such person is Eric Henshaw who has initiated a number of Business For Breakfast (B4B) groups across the M65 corridor. These business networking groups offer budding entrepreneurs in the area a chance to meet, learn about each other?s businesses and chew over the issues of the day.

Members sign up for the year and attend fortnightly breakfast meetings with a structured agenda however you need to do more than simply turn up in order to succeed.

There?s lots of business networking tips available in many books but these first few will set you on your way:

Firstly, don?t expect things to happen overnight. Networking is all about building relationships so getting to know like and trust people is an essential part of the process.

In order to receive, it?s better to give first. This will again help the relationship building process but there?s more to it than that. Business networking is not about recruiting your fellow networkers as your private army of sales people, it?s deeper than that. Your fellow networkers will recommend your goods or services as and when the opportunity arises (this is when you get the referrals) and this may take months before you feel as though you are getting a positive response. You can accelerate the process by making it easy for your new acquaintances to get to know like and trust you ? do it my giving them referrals first.

If you are running a business in Pendle Lancashire and can follow business networking advice then you could do a lot worse than contact Eric Henshaw. It may not happen overnight but in the long run your business can only benefit through business networking.

Don?t Be Side Swiped By A Buyout

Don?t Be Side Swiped By A Buyout
With various sectors of our economy falling apart left and right, many businesses are closing, or cutting back at the very least. As a result, thousands of employees each month are being let go.

Some of the businesses that have been around longer are handling the need to let employees go by asking them to take a voluntary buyout package, which usually involves a hefty compensation package. Depending on the person, this could be good or bad. If you have been, or are about to be, offered a voluntary buyout package, take some time to learn the pros and cons. This way, you won?t feel side swiped by the request.

Are They Offering Enough Money?

Not that you?re setting out to be greedy, but they are asking you to leave the company, right? This means you need to make sure that you and your family will be well taken care of until you can find another job. Some companies offer employees two week?s pay for each year of service. For some, this adds up quite nicely. But does it measure up to the amount you could receive if you just stuck around and retired (that is, if your job will last that long)?

If you really think that leaving might be the best option, but you?re not sure if you like the buyout amount they?re offering, you may want to inquire about additional money owed. This might include making sure that you have money equivalents for unused vacation and sick days thrown into the package. Depending on what you have leftover, this could beef up your package quite nicely.

Will You Lose Your Seniority?

Another question to ask yourself when contemplating whether to take the buyout package is will you lose your seniority? Some companies will offer a large sum to employees they would like to buyout. But the downside to that is that when the employee tries to acquire another job, they will have to start at ground zero. For someone who has put in over 25 years at one establishment, this prospect can be very disheartening. This is especially true when taking into consideration that your job downsizing may mean the rest of the industry may be doing the very same thing. You want to make sure that the money you receive will be worth losing your seniority at best, and eliminating your prospect of a new job at worst.

Is It Worth Sticking Around?

Finally, before you turn down a buyout package flat, think about whether it?s worth sticking around. If the company is going out of business soon, and stock prices are falling, you may want to snatch the amount they offer before you lose your chance at such a high amount in the future. Determining the fate of the company will take some research on your part. But it will be well worth it to gather the insight you?ll need to make the best decision for your financial well being.

Before you agree to accept any type of voluntary buyout package, you will want to consult with an attorney. An attorney can help you decide whether leaving is worth it. And also show whether the numbers that the company is offering (which may seem impressive) are really enough.

Don?t Miss The Boat: What Your Small Business Should Do Now To Get New Customers And Drive Sales

Don?t Miss The Boat: What Your Small Business Should Do Now To Get New Customers And Drive Sales
As a small business with local clients, perhaps you haven?t put much thought into your own company website. After all, many of your customers live nearby. Perhaps they pass your business while running errands and stop in to make a purchase. Other folks become customers after finding you in the local business pages. You?ve got a great local clientele. Do you really need to worry about being online?

Absolutely.

With today?s economy, many small, local business owners are recognizing the important of a strong online presence. Why? Because sales are slowing and they realize the internet is where potential customers are searching for services and products.

Local business owners are setting up sites to grow their businesses and capture new customers. If your company is not online or if you haven?t given much thought to your website lately, you could be missing out on a significant amount of business.

What Can A Great Site Do For You?

Done the right way, your company website is literally an extension of your business that generates its own web traffic and creates new opportunities to make money. Your site can be an easy way for you to:

? Build traffic and find new clients

? Establish your brand

? Sell your goods and services online

? Advertise promotions

? Tell your story and set yourself apart from your competitors

? Build credibility by providing quality information

? Develop a relationship with your customers e zines.

Let?s face it. A well written company website is a powerful marketing tool. Because it?s available 24 hours a day, potential clients can find your site, read your content, and conduct a business transaction with you even while your brick and mortar store is closed.

Unlike the local business pages, someone on your website isn?t distracted by competitors? ads. With the right content, you?ll have a captive audience eager to do business with you. In addition, you ll know exactly how many people are visiting your site so you can make adjustments to your content and promotions accordingly. Contrast that with local print ads where you often don?t know how many people are viewing your ad.

Take It to the Next Level

Maybe you haven?t set up your own website because you?re not sure how to create one. Luckily, there are some great budget conscience products on the market that automate the process of setting up a successful website. You can build a highly trafficked site that will enhance your business without any prior website knowledge.

If you can write and type, you can create a great company site while still having plenty of time to focus on your core business. Or if you prefer, you could outsource this process and have your site created for you.

If you?ve had a site up for awhile but it hasn?t generated a lot of traffic, consider an update. Revise it to include a great selection of relevant content your customers are seeking and the search engines will reward you by bringing more visitors to your site.

So what are you waiting for?

In this current market, it?s imperative that you differentiate yourself from your competition. Don?t let your competitors attract new business that could be yours. Give your local business the exposure it deserves by creating a business website that over delivers. Developing a solid web presence can strengthen your business exponentially

Don?t Lie On Your Resume ? But Do Spin

Don?t Lie On Your Resume ? But Do Spin
Honesty is always the best policy and the same holds true when writing our resume and you should never flat out lie; but there are times when you should spin. You hear the term spin from the politicians that can take any situation and ?spin? it to become something totally different. While you may view a Governor drinking a beer at a bar as a bad thing, you may not feel that way, once a spin doctor gets a hold of the story and tells you that the Governor was simply out in an attempt to re connect with the local blue collared workers of America. Same situation, different spin.

It is this art of spinning that can be used to help you at times on your resume. Here are some places on your resume where you never want to lie, but you may want to spin:

?Education: If you only completed three and a half years of college, put that down. It may be tempting to say that you did graduate, but these days it is very easy for potential employer to check. But you also don?t want to simply put that you didn?t graduate. Here is a perfect place to spin. Tell why you didn?t complete college. For example, ?I left school early to take a position with XYZ corporation and am currently seeking information about online coursed that will help me to complete my schooling and obtain my degree.? Same situation, just worded differently.

?Time gaps: This is especially for the former stay at home moms. It is very bad to leave large time gaps in your resume, but you never want to lie and say you worked when you really didn?t. At the same time you don?t want to just say you stayed at home to take care of your child; spin it. For example, ?I took some time out of the private sector and devoted much of my time to volunteer work.? This can be especially true as most stay at home moms do find themselves volunteering a great deal for the schools in which their children attend. This is a wonderful skill and when spun properly it can not only look good on a resume, but it will also fill that nasty time gap.

?Experience: Never lie about what you can and cannot do for an employer because the time may come when you are asked to perform what you said you could do and then you are stuck staring like a deer in the headlights. You should however, spin your work experience to be relevant to the job in which you are applying. If you are applying for a management position at a financial firm and you have managed before at a fast food restaurant, key in on the fact that you did mange others before, not necessarily who. For example, instead of saying you managed the fry section of your local greasy spoon, say, ?At XYZ I was in charge of a four member team and oversaw their day to day activities to ensure proper productivity was taking place.? Beats the heck out of saying you yelled at four guys to drop more baskets of fries.

Again, being honest is the best way to get a job and if you lie you are taking a big risk that you will get caught. Instead of telling outright lies on your resume, think like the politicians do and make sure that you are spinning your story in a way that will come off pleasing to anyone who reads it.

Don?t Be Afraid To Challenge Your Boss ? And Stand Up For Your Job

Don?t Be Afraid To Challenge Your Boss ? And Stand Up For Your Job
Many people today are working in situations where they feel that their bosses are not taking their ideas seriously, and may even feel that their jobs are no longer secure. But, what do you do if you are in a situation like this and have a new idea you would like to try for the business, or a project you would like to see done? What if you feel that your boss won?t give you the time of day ? never mind actually giving you a chance to try the new ideas out?

There is a way, but it can be scary for most people to try ? because it involves throwing a challenge out to your boss.

You need to be prepared for this to blow up in your face, and you will need some guts to attempt this. But, if your work situation has deteriorated to a point that you feel you have no other options, trying this might just give you a bit of peace in your workplace. It can be a bit of an all or nothing approach, but sometimes it may be the only option you have left.

First ? prepare. If you have a new idea or strategy that you would like to see implemented, but know that your boss will be confrontational about it, you need to have your entire plan carefully mapped out. You need to be ready to walk into your boss?s office and tell them that this is it ? and give your presentation with complete confidence. Make it very obvious that you worked hard on it.

Then ? throw down the challenge. This is where you tell your boss that if you are allowed to go ahead and follow this plan, but it doesn?t work out, you will leave quietly and not give your boss any problems.

However, you really need to understand when you should use this tactic and the situation you should be in first. When you have reached this point, you should be as close as possible already to either quitting because your boss has been making it impossible to continue working, or actually being fired. When you reach this stage, it becomes an all or nothing proposition, and you really have nothing left to lose. You might already have one foot out the door anyway, so this is your last ditch attempt at resolution.

It may be hard to believe, but this strategy actually does work ? but only if you have thought out your plan thoroughly and prepared for every circumstance. If you don?t really know your job inside and out, it isn?t likely a good idea to try this approach. Sometimes, it can actually open the door for your boss to show you more respect too.

But, if all else fails, be sure to do your research and understand your rights, especially if you have been dealing with a hostile workplace, and you feel that your job is in jeopardy.

Don?t Be SAD ? The Winter Blues Can Be Defeated

Don?t Be SAD ? The Winter Blues Can Be Defeated
Yes, it?s that time of the year again. January is the month of mental and physical rehabilitation caused by festive excessiveness, the days never really detach themselves from night and pretty much everyone is depressed. Or in more convivial terms: suffering from winter blues.

We all have a healthy list of unofficial reasons for this national downer, but an official explanation central to this collective feeling is Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD as it?s more aptly recognised. According to the Mental Health Foundation, one in 100 Britons suffer from seasonal depression and many more generally feel, well, low.

Hands up if you?re currently experiencing spells of lethargy, cravings for sweet things and disruptive sleep? Yes? The good news is you?re not what the Mental Health Foundation would classify as ?fully depressed?; however, you are certainly a member of the winter blues society, which has over 500,000 representatives in the UK. (For the record this is not a certified group, but I thought the comfort of being part of a large statistic would help you with accepting the diagnosis some what.)

Ok, that?s enough of feeling sorry for ourselves. Unfortunately we can?t speed the seasons up and entice spring to wake from its slumber. Nor is it recommended we prescribe ?uplifting? drugs to our daily routines in order to shift our mood, but there are more natural ways to combat the blues. The days may be dark, but there is light at the end of our subconscious tunnel.

?With SAD, one theory is that light entering the eye causes changes in hormone levels in the body,? says Alison Kerry, from the mental health charity MIND. ?In our bodies, light functions to stop the production of the sleep hormone melatonin, making us wake up. It?s thought that SAD sufferers are affected by shorter daylight hours in the winter. They produce higher melatonin, causing lethargy and symptoms of depression.?

This theory certainly goes against the true SAD sufferer. If one isn?t sleeping well or is generally exhausted and low, one doesn?t want to get out of bed at the crack of dawn to appreciate the morning illuminations. However, by exposing yourself (or your eyes more specifically) to natural light for as long as possible during the day ? bearing in mind we?re only witnessing approximately seven to eight hours of daylight at the moment ? it will go some way in reigniting your dampened mental state. Now is the perfect time to relocate to the nearest window in your office to take in as much natural light as possible.

The office is often the nucleus of melancholy in the New Year, with colleagues equipped with sniffles, complaints and masks of sorrow ? this doesn?t necessarily help with you overcoming your own winter blues. We collectively share our New Year?s resolutions of improved diets and health regimes, but know deep inside that they may never materialise. However, exercise ? as much as we can loathe it ? is an ally when fighting the seasonal battle.

?There?s convincing evidence that 30 minutes vigorous exercise three times a week is effective against depression, and anecdotal evidence that lighter exercise will have a beneficial effect too,? says Dr Andrew McCulloch, chief executive of the Mental Health Foundation. ?If you have a tendency towards SAD, outdoor exercise will be have a double benefit, because you?ll gain some daylight.?

So officially we don?t need to run a marathon or climb Kilimanjaro to snap out of our low spirits; a short but exhilarating burst of activity during your working day will stimulate the mind, body and soul. Daily exertion is said to increase the level of the mood regulating chemical serotonin in the brain, in turn encouraging you to interact with your colleagues more and imparting a positive outlook to your day. If you?re fortunate enough to live in rural surroundings, the countryside is also a great remedy for cleansing the mind. MIND also suggests that a 60 minute walk everyday in an open environment is an effective and enjoyable way to beat the winter blues.

Regular exercise is great for personal revival, but what if a group is suffering from winter blues? You will need to think of ways to improve morale and mood with your friends and colleagues and not suffer in silence. As an employer in particular, happy personnel are central to seeing your business also get through the blues and not allowing productivity to dip. Virtuous exercise and upgraded diet all helps, but you need to think about the bigger picture when brining your team together.

?When we encounter stress, conflict or depression, those around us may see a change in our behaviour,? says Tom Vaughton, Co Founder of Fresh Tracks, who provides tailored team development and team building programmes to organisations throughout the UK. ?Some people become more introverted and analytical; others might suddenly appear more demanding while a third group will go from being hard working and productive to disinterested and lazy.?

?In a team a change in behaviour like this can upset the balance and lower morale across the group. There are questionnaires that can help to identify how, why and importantly when our behaviour can alter. Popular examples include Belbin Team Roles and the Strength Deployment Inventory,? continues Tom. ?In a team a change in behaviour like this can upset the balance and lower morale across the group. There are questionnaires that can help to identify how, why and importantly when our behaviour can alter. Popular examples include Belbin Team Roles and the Strength Deployment Inventory.?

So, getting outside, filling your lungs with fresh air and laughter and brushing away those oppressive cob webs with your fellow colleagues could well be the natural antidote to winter blues this year. The mind is a powerful entity and is certainly the puppeteer when controlling our emotions and mood ? we just need to take the reigns more often.

Or as Mahatma Gandhi so incisively put it: ?A man is but the product of his thoughts what he thinks, he becomes?

See how Fresh Tracks? Belbin Team Roles can unite your personnel and help beat those winter blues.

If you?re suffering from SAD see your GP for more advice.

5 Steps In Optimizing Your Online Revenues

5 Steps In Optimizing Your Online Revenues
Do you have trouble with your online business? Are you not getting the income you need?

If you said ?yes,? then you are probably leaving out some important details in your marketing strategy.

Let me help you through this easy 5 step process that will ensure you are earning abundant revenues from your online business, which you deserve. Just take these steps and you?re on your way to considerable success.

First Step Enticing

Of course, before you can generate revenues, you must first get people to visit your sales webpage. There are different techniques to do this. This is where it all begins. Sales can?t just be picked off the road. It doesn?t involve magic like getting a coin out of your ear. You got to have a certain source of sales. It will be all up to you to discover that ?source? and turn it into valuable traffic for your sales webpage.

This is the ?marketing? part of internet marketing.

You can use varied strategies like article marketing, PPC advertising, Web 2.0 marketing, search engine optimization, etc., to successfully bring traffic to your sales page.

But remember, this is just the first step. Here s how to proceed.

Second Step Bundling

After you?re able to lead people to your sales page, you?ll see that your offers will... *drum roll*.. Start selling.

You can get to two endings from here.

One, your lead will choose to purchase your offer. This is good.

Two, your lead will choose to decline your offer. This is not what we want, but it?s not bad. We?ll talk about this later.

Let?s talk about the leads that choose to purchase. The question is, ?Would you cease marketing because they don?t buy your offer??

Definitely not! You can still earn more through ?bundling.?

Let?s say your order a Whopper from Burger King. Don?t go for the value meal; just order the sandwich. After giving your order, the cashier will surely ask if you want fries or some dessert with your Whopper. That?s bundling?presenting extra items when the customer is ready to purchase your offer. Customers are more vulnerable to buying at this point, so it will be best to offer other products right now.

Third Step Making Former Prospects into Future Buyers

You should aim to capture your lead?s email address, whether they buy from you or not.

Why?

To establish future contact with them.

They didn?t buy your offer now, but they may buy a product you?ll offer in the future. Don?t give them up forever. You managed to lead them to your sales page; this is your opportunity to make them your future buyers.

Alternatively, those who already bought from you have a higher chance of buying from you again. They have put their trust in your business.

Trusting you again will be easier. It was shown in a study that repeat customers generate over 70 of an online business? revenues. To be able to offer them new products in the future, it?s important to capture their contact info.

Fourth Step Show Kindness

Now, you got their contact info. What message will you send them?

One thing: don?t offer products everyday. That will be a sure way to make them unsubscribe.

Rather, entice them with freebies, even gifts, every now and then. You have to show that you?re kind. This is to tell them that you?re not just focused in their purchasing ability.

You will be able to establish amazing relationship with your leads by giving gifts.

Fifth step Offer

When you?re done with all the four steps, you can begin presenting new offers.

After that, it will just be about repeating steps 1 to 5 to maintain your online business success.

Don't Hurt Your Rankings: Common Mistakes Made By Companies

Don't Hurt Your Rankings: Common Mistakes Made By Companies
Search engine optimization and even pay per click campaigns will surely be around for quite a while. Perhaps this is because they still remain two of the best strategies to obtain the most ideal search engine position for your website.

However, because the results may take some time, there are a number of companies that unknowingly or deliberately sabotage their own SEO and PPC campaign. In the end, they have to suffer the consequences of their actions, which may be a decrease in their ranking and traffic or, worse, getting banned from search engines.

Where You Can Go Wrong

There are two types of mistakes a company may make in relation to SEO or PPC. First, there are a number of business website owners who actually don't have much idea about the technique that their demands are contrary to the best practices of SEO. On the other hand, there are also others who pretend they already know SEO and perform some tricks and changes that will only damage what they've started.

So watch out for the following errors:

1. You make some updates on your site. You may ask yourself, What's the harm of doing this? Wouldn't it be a very clever thing to do, knowing that you're saving your SEO company some time and energy. You may have a point, but your actions may compromise whatever plans the SEO company may have for your site. Worse, your actions may spell a destructive process for you. Here are some possible scenarios:

You decided that you want to add another content in your website, perhaps some news or press release about your newest product or service. Hence, because you thought that it doesn't hurt if you'll do this by yourself, you went on with your plan without consulting your SEO company. Unknown to you, however, you already have altered the tricks and codes that may have been used by the SEO firm so you can rank highly. You may have modified the right keyword density for your site. The bottom line is you could lower down your search engine ranking.

There could also be a time when you wanted to create a new link for your site. However, you've forgotten to make proper redirection for the URL. Thus, what you have is a broken link, which makes it very difficult for search engine spiders to crawl and index the pages of your website.

In the end, SEO companies would take the blame for the client's wrongdoings. To avoid getting misjudged, though, they would often monitor the performance of the site of their client, take note of the changes, and contact the webmaster right away. This is to prevent any bad consequences or to make the necessary repairs before the website suffers tremendous loss.

2. You want some change, but you don't want to make any modifications. This can be one of the most difficult aspects for SEO companies. There are a lot who want to make sure that they can rank highly in search engines and send traffic into their webpages. However, they don't want to make any type of modification for them to achieve these objectives.

Here are examples:

Keywords and keyword density are two important elements in a website. You want to drive targeted customers into your website.

These are people that would likely buy your product or avail of your service. However, you don't want to make any changes in your articles and content. You don't like to identify the most effective keywords, and you don't maintain the most ideal keyword density.

There are also a number of website owners who still believe that Flash and other forms of animation can drive traffic into their website. This could be true; however, what make these Flash sites searchable in search engines are their contents.

You cannot simply depend on your animation. As a matter of fact, they make it very difficult for search engine spiders to index your Flash page. After all, they can only read text files. Moreover, they make the site very difficult to download. Flash files are known to be really heavy.

Ethical SEO companies are usually very blunt about the right way to do things. And they wouldn't mind letting go of a client who will not likely listen to what the firm has to say about their website.

3. You apply your own techniques. Unless you're a certified SEO guru, you should avoid performing your own SEO tricks. First of all, it becomes an extremely difficult job for an SEO company to make the necessary repairs.

Second, by the time they try to change what has been done, your website may already be suffering from a loss of ranking. If you don't like to get yourself hurt, allow the professionals to do their job and take care of these aspects.

Don't Put All Your Eggs In The Internet Basket

Don't Put All Your Eggs In The Internet Basket
Everyone talks about the internet. You would think there is practically nothing that cannot be achieved online the way this new medium is promoted and praised. And, yes, it has changed the way we live and communicate and the way we exchange information. But is it the answer to every marketing problem? I would argue not.

Although the value of the internet as part of any serious marketing strategy cannot seriously be denied, it is not the whole answer to any marketing conundrum. The mantra goes that if you don't use the internet you are losing money. But how true is this? Well, there is an element of truth there. Every business should have a website, but not at the expense of offline advertising.

Until extremely recently there was no such thing as the internet and yet business people made millions through other marketing channels, from trade fairs to billboards, business cards to promotional gifts. I mention these because they are still extremely popular and productive marketing methods. I guess I'm trying to say that there is more to marketing than the internet, and never forget it. Don't rely on it solely: make it an important part of the mix but don't put all your eggs in the internet basket.

In this article I intend to bring your attention back to offline marketing. By that I mean non-internet marketing. Why should you do this? I say it is because it's cost-effective and highly profitable to do so. Even if you are an affiliate marketer online, consider offline strategies to promote your website and products. Go back to basics. Use the time honored ways and means of marketing, such as word-of-mouth, joint ventures, direct mail, promotions and sponsorships. Hey, you can publicize your URL on the back of all these campaigns.

Pay attention to your business cards. Hand them out as a matter of course to absolutely everyone you meet. Yes, they can have your website address on them. In fact, they should. But no visit to a website can compare with meeting the business owner, looking him in the eye and being handed his business card. Hand them to the people you meet in school, mall, restaurant and even people at the bus station. All of them are potential customers.

Send out news releases. This is the way to make news spread like wildfire through radio, TV and the print media. This strategy may take time but it definitely delivers customers. And stickers! Place them everywhere that's legal and fun. Place them on your bumper and the bumpers of friends and customers. Put your website URL on stickers out there. You will get more visits, more business and ultimately more revenue.

Become an expert and a specialist speaker. Speak at local events and get asked to speak as an expert in your field. Believe me, once you are perceived as being an expert customers won't even bother to look at your website. They will come straight to you to do business. So you see there is not reason to confine your marketing efforts to the internet. There are hundreds of ways to market offline. You are limited only by your imagination.

Don't Be A Scam Victim

Don't Be A Scam Victim
One of the most sought after workplaces nowadays is aboard a cruise liner. The number of applicants for the various cruise ship jobs yearly is no surprise. After all, the jobs do pay handsomely. Sadly, this same number of applicants can easily become prey to scammers.

And being scammed is really frustrating, not to mention disheartening. Not only that you don?t get the job that you have always wanted, but in most cases you actually end up losing a lot of money. Thus, you should know how to avoid them at all costs.

The best way of staying away from scammers is to discover how they work. With that, you will know what to watch out for. The most common means that scammers dupe prospective applicants is through the mail, either as postal mail or via the internet. Often, these are done rather convincingly that you might easily think that they are real. The best thing to do here is not to entertain any mail that you don?t remember specifically asking for. Though you might miss a few genuine mail, it would still be worth it.

In some cases, scammer schemes may be so elaborate that they actually have a real office room. This definitely is better at deceiving people, they can see an ?actual? company in operation. But as with other scams, these offices will disappear into thin air when authorities arrive to investigate. In order to avoid being a sucker for this kind of operation, you need to research first on the background of the company. All legal cruise line job recruitment agencies are registered under the labor department of a state or country. You need to check with them first to see if the accreditation that they presented are real. Another tip to remember is that most major cruise ship companies hire applicants directly and do not go through placement agencies. This will give you a clue that an agency offering you a position aboard a major cruise liner is probably fake.

Another major feature of scams are employment fees. Though collection of such fees are allowed, these are not required by law. Also, you will notice (albeit probably too late) the the fees imposed by these scams are much bigger that is actually allowed for legal companies. Another warning sign that something fishy is going on is if the ?company? asks for additional money even after you have made your deposits. Anything besides the deposit that they mentioned initially is a sign that you need to quickly get out of there.

However, even if you are indeed applying for a legitimate job for a real company, you can still be a target of scammers. These con artists often hang near the offices of the companies and offer to help you get your application through faster, but for a fee. In some cases, they stay at government offices for the same purpose. Even if you are tempted to accept their offers, since it would definitely be a lot easier for you, it would be best to just say no. Though definitely more tedious, you will be sure that your application definitely goes through if you are the one to do it.

Remember, if you don?t what to be scammed, its best to stick to the legal way. It will also help you make sure that you don?t into trouble later on.

Don T Pay Executive Retention Bonuses

Don T Pay Executive Retention Bonuses
Many times over the past year, I?ve been tempted to write about the issue of paying retention bonuses to executives, especially those who?ve often helped run their organizations (and the economy) into difficulties by making poor, extravagant, or questionable business and ethical decisions.

The network news, radio talk shows, business publications, weekly news magazines, and daily newspapers are full of such stories, often regarding executives in financial services and other firms.

With few exceptions, I?m opposed to such bonuses.

They?re too often another form of compensation without significant or long term benefit to the employer.

And they?re costly in other ways.

Here are 7 reasons not to award executive retention bonuses:

1) Does the executive really intend to leave? Or are such bonuses just becoming ?expected?? Plus, it?s easier to keep someone than going through the time and expense of a search.

2) Do other organizations really want them?while paying substantially more to hire them? Remember that if another organization wants them, they?re likely going to have to match their compensation, retention bonus, and increase other forms of compensation, perks, and benefits.

3) Do you really want to retain them given the problems they?ve helped create? Using contrarian thinking for a minute, some people would argue this is exactly why to keep them?that since they got us into difficulty, they must now have the wisdom to get us out of it.

However, in your experience, is this what usually happens?or do such executives typically get their organizations in more difficulty?

4) Even at their level, the current employment market isn?t great. Can they really just walk out the door with ?a new employer by the end of the week??

5) Would fresh outside thinking be beneficial? Think of Ford Motor Company going outside its industry and hiring Alan Mulally from Boeing; it?s not the only reason, but only Ford didn?t ask for government bailout funding among the Big Three.

6) Reduced morale among employees not receiving retention bonuses, but who get the day to day work of the organization done. Retention bonuses given to highly paid executives whose performance isn?t stellar (and often even when it is), creates resentment and feelings of a lack of value among other employees.

Sooner or later, organizations pay for these bonuses in reduced effort, thinking, customer service, and increased employee turnover costs.

7) You?re often buying their loyalty for a short period of time. Retention bonuses are usually a short, not a mid or long term solution; if they want to leave for another employer without as many business problems, is a retention bonus really going to keep them?

Besides, in most cases, there?s usually no requirement that assures they?ll stay for at least a year or more; how much time are most organizations really buying?

As with almost anything, there are exceptions. Here are 4 reasons to pay such bonuses, but as a last choice.

1. The executive has proprietary information that must be protected.

2. They?re essential to retaining one or more vital customers.

3. They?re a ?subject matter expert;? have needed skills others don?t; or replacing them would take a very long time and be very costly.

4. Losing them to a competitor would be highly damaging.

Which weighs more? The reasons to pay most executive retention bonuses, or not to pay them?

Instead, implement employee retention strategies across all levels of the organization, and reduce employee turnover costs by paying higher wages and making improvements.

You?ll be ahead.

Dominate Any Niche You Choose

Dominate Any Niche You Choose
Marketing daily online is like fuel for the body, without it you will suffer lack of nutrients it need to survive. However fees are increasing day to day espcially for those that offer new and unique products. Just remember if you can not connect with your prospect and understand them, then you will not be able to increase your bottom line.

Daily marketing is very important if you want to grow beyond your current size or reach. Delivering to laser targeted prospects are the key to expanding your horizons online. You need to write articles, press release and ppc just to name a few to get the word out about a new product or service that you offer. When you write make sure that you are sending you prospect to the right website or you will defeat the whole process.

Pay per click is the effective way of bringing traffic to your website whether you are a newbie or a seasoned player. Pay per click is the best way to drive targeted traffic to your Web site or business profile. A very important point to keep in mind with pay per click is you must test, test, and test some more. After all, the primary point of advertising with Pay Per Click is to reach niche demographics via well-positioned geographies and categories. Remember, the number one rule of pay per click is that it is not about buying clicks. The essence of pay per click is to achieve more conversions for the lowest price.

Never forget that if you cannot connect to your visitors then your website is useless. Sadly the saying has been true that online traffic is a euphemism that translates for visitors. The simgle most gift you can give to your viewers is content. Understand them know where they originate from and get more of it.

DominateIM Review

DominateIM Review
The advent of the internet has made it possible to make money from home. However at times things may not look as flowery or as easy as they seem as there are some problems associated with making money online.

The most common mistake one makes while trying to make money online is that they spend so much time and concentration on making their product or conducting their service that they forget to place emphasis on generating traffic to their site. It is only if there is traffic and visitors to your site that it may possible for you to make money online.

No Point Changing Products

Once they find that their product or service does not generate any money, they give up with their current product and try something else that looks ?more? feasible. However, invariably this only brings them back to square one. Instead of trying something different, it is better to use the help of a company such as Dominate IM in generating traffic to your website.

Avoid Trying To Be a Jack Of All Trades

Another mistake one makes while trying to make money online is the same one that very often occur offline; trying to become a jack of all trades and only ending up master of none. They concentrate on too many things at a time and don?t find time to complete even one project, lest generate traffic for it!

To avoid this, you could either carry a notepad or voice recorder at all times to note new ideas as they come to you, or approach a company like Dominate IM for some assistance with handling your project.

Perfection Sometimes Get You Nowhere

Then there are the perfectionists who are so particular about getting their best product launched, that they end up only modifying the product but don?t get it launched. The better alternative to make money successfully online is to first launch the project and modify it on the way, or use the help of Dominate IM.

Concentrate More on Expanding Your Business

The next common mistake done by people trying to make money online is placing too much concentration on non money generating activities. Business owners should instead spend time concentrating on expanding their business much more than on these unnecessary activities.

At the start, a restricted budget may lead to entrepreneurs having to concentrate on all the work of the business on their own. However once some money is generated, it is better to outsource the work to firms such as Dominate IM to get the most done in the least time.

Surfing the Internet is a Waste of Time

And last, but not least, is the mistake people make checking their emails constantly and wasting money by surfing the internet every morning. Instead of spending this time checking mail, it can be used on the business. A good suggestion would be to use a computer without an internet access to do all the work related with the business, and leave the internet work and email reading work to companies like Dominate IM.

Domestic Green Engineer An Emerging Profession

Domestic Green Engineer An Emerging Profession
With the rising concern for the environment, the demand for a domestic green engineer is on the rise. In the past, the nations were more concerned about their developments than the environment. This resulted in the gradual degradation of the environment, and an ecological imbalance. Consequently, there have been changes in the food chains; increases in air and water pollution; depletion of non renewable energy resources; and deforestation and fast erosion of the top fertile soil. Now, the nations have woken up to these problems and are trying to restore the balance of nature. A domestic green engineer greatly helps the world in this endeavor.

Role Of A Domestic Green Engineer:

These engineers help the builder s to make green buildings, and homeowners to practice sustainable living. Thus, they help in protecting the environment, saving money, and building a healthy community. The homes and buildings are big emitters of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. By making small changes, like using energy efficient appliances, homeowners can considerably reduce their carbon footprints. These engineers are trained in various aspects, like electrical systems, plumbing, installation of solar heating systems, rainwater harvesting, etc. They help to build homes that make maximum use of renewable energy resources and are energy efficient and in sync with the environment. They help to reduce the electricity consumption of the buildings by using optimal electrical solutions, and green plumbing practices.

In many states it is mandatory to make provision for rainwater harvesting, and sewage disposal plants, while constructing new buildings. People are more concerned about their health and environment these days, and, hence. Prefer to live in homes constructed with natural materials. The world governments have also increased their focus on the environment and are allocating big budgets for green issues. All this has resulted in increased demand for domestic green engineers. This sector lacks skilled and trained manpower and, hence, it s a good idea to enter into this profession; particularly, if you have an inclination towards sustainable development. The demand for the professionals trained in this field is also driven by the fact that the environment rules and regulations have become strict, and various tax benefits are offered to the builders and the owners of green buildings currently.

Due to the prevailing global economic crisis, there are fewer job openings in most sectors, but green jobs are still hot. Even though companies and governments are reducing their expenditures on a number of things, there is no such cut in budget for protecting the environment. The jobs for these engineers exist in a number of fields. You can become an instructor, join an NGO, work with a construction company, or start your own consultancy business.

If you want to become a domestic green engineer, then you should search the Internet to find the institutes offering these courses. The duration and educational qualifications depend upon the type of course you are considering. Since there is a trend to opt for recession proof careers, many institutes have started offering these courses. You can pursue a domestic green engineer course even through distance education.

Domestic Green Engineer Is The New IT Field

Domestic Green Engineer Is The New IT Field
There is a new career that is taking every country by storm. It is a job that is recession proof, has a very strong and stable future, is enjoying the benefits of massive government programs and does not require some lengthy college degree to get started. What is this new field that is opening up in every country?

What is a domestic green engineer? This is person who helps design and implement measures to make homes and businesses more green. Every country is concerned with reducing carbon emissions. Homes are one of the key contributors to Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions. Reducing heating and cooling energy requirements through better insulation, vapor exchange and circulation is a major focus of every government. Not only is the need to reduce emissions driving the need for domestic green engineers but so is the cost of energy. With energy costs going through the roof everyone is concerned with stretching their energy dollar as far as it can go. In the United States the government is even giving massive tax breaks for implementing green technologies. Who is at the forefront of installing green products?

There are major changes coming in government requirements involving home energy consumption. By 2016 new homes will need to have 15 of their energy come from renewable sources like solar or wind power. Presently less than 2 of an average home s energy comes from renewable resources.

In England the government has taken drastic steps to help move people towards renewable energy sources. They are covering 80 to 100 of the cost of implementing green technologies if the homeowner uses a properly accredited domestic green engineer. That has huge impacts to the economy, the environment and the field of the green engineer.

It is not too surprising that the hottest new job venture is domestic green engineer. What does it take to get in to the field? There are more and more companies that are training people to become domestic green engineers. The courses take about six months and usually do not require any level of experience before starting the courses.

The average salary for a DGE is between ?18,000 and ?55,000 which about $27,000 to $82,500. Not a bad return on your investment for a six month training course. Industry analysts are predicting that these ranges will increase on an average of 12 per year over the course of the next 5 years. The government in England has stated that there are approximately 26 million homes that will require some level of services offered by a domestic green engineer between now and 2012. That is a very large pool of customers. Prime Minister Brown made a recent statement comparing DGE to the IT field of the 90 s. He went on to predict that that the DGE field explosion will be bigger than the high tech field.

In a time where people are losing their jobs and finding a new one is getting harder and harder it is refreshing to know that there are industries that are growing and doing well.

Doing What You've Always Done...

Doing What You've Always Done...
We all know the definition of insanity--doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. Are you wondering how to get different results in your business, while continuing to do what you've always done? If so, we need to talk.

You see, for results to change, the steps leading to them must change. We must change what we do! Ok you're saying: "Like I don't know that already?"

Over simplified yes, but I have to tell you, my experience coaching thousands of professionals for the past 15 years has shown me this is a global problem. My 8 years producing seminars for Tony Robbins, and observing the hundreds of thousands of people attending his programs also proved this critical fact: Many people want to reach new levels of success, expertise and confidence - without changing their behavior.

Convincing people to change how they think about their business is the greatest challenge. As soon as we change our thinking, we'll not only change our income, but also our life!

What changes are we talking about here? The kind that says things will improve as soon as you get "your name out there," as soon as you establish a "reputation"?

Yes, these can help. . . a little. Yet, if all it took was name recognition, most of us would be rich. And, since so many business and sales people mail out ads with names and pictures on them, their phones must be ringing off the hook, right?

Reality is, the phones don't ring, at least not often enough. There's a long wait between calls, sometimes years and years before recognition and image bring in big money. If you have lots of time and money, just keep doing what you're doing.

But if you want to speed up the process, stop doing what you're doing now and start marketing in a different, direct way. People will call. They will respond because they will be interested in your product or service.

You must get prospects and clients to respond to the bottom line.

When YOU recognize that having other people recognize you doesn't pay the bills, you'll be on your way. When you accept that your mind has to become a marketer's mind, you'll begin the process of a new life. When you realize that top-producing business and sales people don't do what everyone else does.. . and that behaving differently is the reason they're top-producing, you'll make a big breakthrough!

It's true. How you see the world determines how the world sees you. In other words, if you think the world is full of people who are interested in what you have to sell, and that your job is to find those people through marketing - you will find them

If, on the other hand, you feel your "Professionalism, good name, nice brochure or a good website" are enough to make people want your services and products, but you are not making sales, isn't it time for a paradigm shift?

We always get what we want - always - if we have the psychological strength to focus on it, filtering out all the empty chatter that surrounds us which drowns out what is really most important!

Which is what? Getting interested people to respond to you! How do we accomplish this?

1. It requires adopting a new marketing mind-set.

2. It requires stretching your possibilities.

3. It requires reshaping your belief systems.

4. It requires a new focus.

My friend Mark Victor Hansen, co-founder of Chicken Soup for the Soul Series, has built his empire living this belief system:

"Your business is marketing, and marketing is your business."

This week we can all remind ourselves of Aristotle's wise words paraphrased, "Marketing excellence is not a single act, but rather a habit."

To Your Ultimate Success!

Doing What You Love Or Loving What You Do

Doing What You Love, Or Loving What You Do
We are in the midst of a global recession, if you have a job, count yourself lucky. Lucky or not, the UK workforce is not a happy one. The CIPD?s most recent Employee Outlook survey unveiled that job satisfaction has plunged from 46 to 37 in 2009.

Does loving your job really mean you have to do what you enjoy? Or do you merely need to change your attitude towards it?

Chant?l du Plooy investigates why people stay in jobs they don?t like what the advantages are when you love your job? And she talks to three people who each have a different approach to being passionate about what you do.

Making you vocation your vacation

Mark Twain, who wrote best sellers like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, once said: ?The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation.?

Ben Southall, the 34 year old ?Best Job? winner from Hampshire has unknowingly taken Mark Twain?s words to heart. Ben competed against thousands of entrants to win Tourism Queensland?s caretaker position. The package includes living in a three bedroom beach house in Australia?s Hamilton Island and experiencing all the adventures in the area, while getting paid generously to do so. All Ben needs to do is blog and brag about his adventures.

Obviously, not everyone can become island caretakers and the good news is not everyone wants to be. Luckily we all differ from each other and your idea of a dream job might be your neighbour?s worst nightmare.

But if people are truly unsatisfied with their vocations, why aren?t they doing something about it?

According to Paula Caligiuri, a professor in Human Resource Management, people stay in jobs they hate due to financial responsibility, retention incentives and fear of change. They could also stay because they feel they have invested too many years at a specific company or due to a pessimistic mindset where they belief that nobody really enjoys their work.

However, when you make your vocation your vacation there are various obvious advantages. Seeing as most of your day is spent at work, loving your job will get you to enjoy your time there. When you love what you do, you will take extra care when doing it and this could result in higher quality work. And most importantly, if you find enjoyment in your 9 5, Monday to Friday due to job inspiration it can contribute to give your life meaning, purpose and direction.

Live to work, or work to live

Jean (27) an accountant from London doesn?t love his job. However, he stays in it because he makes enough money to do the things he does love, makes up for it.

?I use my money to go on exotic holidays, eat out and do fun things. That to me, makes it worth going to work everyday,? he admitted.

Kerry (29) a former nurse from Manchester gave up nursing to live out a passion which was imprinted in her heart since the age of 12.

?I have always wanted to be a photographer,? Kerry said.

?My parents on the other hand, wanted me to get a proper degree behind my name. So I did. But after two degrees in nursing and working in the profession for several years, I knew I definitely had another calling.?

With the support of her husband as well as her parents, Kerry had the courage to pursue a new career at the age of 28.

?I left the clinical intensive care unit and a neat nurse?s uniform for the crazy arty surroundings of a photography school where nothing is too weird or out of the box. I took every last penny I had, took out a huge loan and started my business in the already over populated field of work,? she said.

?My business is 8 months old now and doing extremely well. I remember a quote from Richard Branson, where he said that if you love what you do, you never need to ?work? another day in your life. Now that I do what I love I can agree with him. I am totally a different person, wife and mother as a result of it,? she enthused.

Changing your attitude/ Happiness at work

Recently Chiumento Consulting commissioned a survey called Happiness at Work Index which unveiled that 20 of UK employees are unhappy at work.

According to the survey, happiness at work has more to do with communication from top management than it has to do with how much money you get or what you do.

Happiness at work is also a state of mind, which an individual contributes to their environment, Dr Laurel Edmunds, Head of Research at iOpener, believes. ?You have to start with a positive outlook, no matter what your circumstances and then good things will come to you. It?s a bottom up process,? he said.

Liz (32) a sales manager from Birmingham also believes that motivation in the workplace comes from within. ?My passion is to be successful at whatever I do. To do every task I am given, at which ever level to the best of my ability,? she said.

?I love working with my hands and being creative through painting, decorating and baking but I get to do these things after hours. In the mornings I put on my uniform and adjust my attitude positively. ?Through gaining successful results, I find happiness,? said Liz.

Quick tips to change your career

It is possible that some people can stick through a career they don?t particularly love in order to subsidise after hour enjoyment. It is also possible for others to fine tune their feelings towards their vocation because they happen to be great at it. But for some people a longing for a specific career is too consuming to be substituted with money, success or attitude adjustments.

If you want to change careers, here are five tips to help you on your way:

1. Decide what career you really want and go for it

2. Get professional help: Investigate your new career. Talk to people who are in the profession and visit online resources like:

www.careeranalysts.co.uk

www.ivillage.co.uk

3. Formulate a plan: Don?t quit your current job unless you have a plan in place. A career change is exciting but can also create unnecessary financial strain if you don?t take precautions

4. Create goals: Set yourself specific goals towards your dream and add time limits to each one

5. Do it: By sticking to your goals and making the necessary sacrifices you will be on your way to your new career in no time
