The Job

Managers

1.) Responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of their establishments

2.) General Manager controls the finances, establishment norms to be followed by staff while providing their services to the guests, housekeeping, food quality, decor and interiors.

3.) Assistant managers supervise the day-to-day operations of their departments.

4.) Large hotels have resident managers who resolve problems round the clock.

5.) Department Managers work under the supervision and guidance of the top management.

Front Office

Welcome guests into the hotel and arranges for all the initial formalities to be completed

Front Office Manager supervises the work of the receptionists, information clerk, reservation clerk and other service personnel like bell captain, bell boy and doorman.



F B (Food and Beverage)

This department includes:

1.) The culinary unit ? The culinary department is the very heart of the hotel industry. There are various restaurants specializing in a variety of cuisines. In every restaurant of the hotel, there is an executive chef who supervises the work of chef de parties. The assistant managers supervise the dining room services.

2.) The steward department ? The steward is the head of all the arrangements required in a restaurant. He has to make sure that everything in the food service department is in order. Under the Maitre d' Hotel are the trained personnel who service food and drinks to the guests.

3.) The food service department ? The Food and Beverage Manager plans, organises and controls the work of the catering department. Food and beverage service personnel deal with customers in all kinds of dining establishments from small informal diners to large restaurants. The job is very hectic during parties and conventions.

Restaurant and Food Service Managers are responsible for stocks of tableware, linens, paper, supplies furniture and fixtures cleaning. They arrange for equipment maintenance and repairs. They also have to maintain records of hours and wages of employees, payrolls, and taxes, etc. Banquet Managers are in-charge of catering assignments.

Chef

1.) You must know how to make a wide variety of foods like soups, appetizers, snacks, salads, main dishes, side orders and desserts

2.) To plan entire menus

3.) To come up with new dishes and recipes

4.) To manage kitchen costs

5.) To take over as managers

6.) To supervise kitchen personnel and activities.

7.) Has to look into the bakery, kitchen, restaurant, food and beverages, wines, and to do a juggling job of all.

Housekeeping

House Keeping department looks after cleanliness in rooms, lounges, lobby, restaurant, dining halls, parks etc. This department functions under the supervision of the Executive Housekeeper.

Executive Housekeepers are responsible for ensuring that guest rooms, meeting and banquet rooms and public areas are clean, orderly and well maintained. They train, schedule and supervise the work of housekeepers, inspect rooms and order for the necessary supplies. Housekeeping is a round the clock job.

Marketing Department

Sales Marketing division works to identify the needs of prospective customers develop stay packages to suit their needs and sell the services which have been developed.
