Earn College Credits During Winter Break Using CLEP Tests

Earn College Credits During Winter Break Using CLEP Tests
Considering the high cost of getting a college education these days, it might be wise for students to consider taking advantage of the CLEP (College Level Examination Program) exams in order to earn general education college credits. CLEP exams not only decrease a student?s expenses, but they also help students reach their desired educational goals at a much faster rate. Let?s explore a few ways that students may benefit from CLEP tests during their winter Break.

CLEP exams allow students to show that they have college level knowledge in a variety of subjects without actually taking a college course. Using CLEP, students can bypass general education classes by taking computerized exams in a variety of subjects, such as science, composition, literature, business, and foreign language. By electing to take a CLEP test instead of the corresponding college course, students can save both time and money. Each CLEP, which costs less than $100 to take, can save a student hundreds or thousands of dollars in tuition expenses and books. Because students can often prepare a CLEP test in a few weeks, he or she frees up a huge amount of time that would have otherwise been spent in the classroom, studying for tests and quizzes, and completing group projects. The upcoming winter break presents the perfect opportunity to take CLEP tests because students can study for and complete the exam without interfering with their coursework.

Currently, over 2,900 colleges and universities grant credits to students who earn satisfactory CLEP scores. These higher learning institutions each have different CLEP policies regarding things such as which course a CLEP exam can be used to bypass and minimum score required to receive credits. Students should consult with their academic counselor prior to the end of the semester to see if and how they can use CLEP tests to meet any of their general education degree requirements.

Although studying over winter break may seem like the last thing they would want to do, students should keep in mind that short term sacrifices equate to long term benefits. Say a business student takes the Principles of Marketing and Principles of Management CLEP tests over winter break. The student will have earned six credits and be able to drop the introductory level marketing and management courses that were on his course load for the upcoming semester. The student?s friends will surely be jealous; while they are sitting through tedious classes the upcoming semester, they will be wish that they had been smart enough to take CLEP exams during winter break.

There are a variety of resources that are available to the student to help them prepare for their CLEP exams. These resources include college textbooks, online study systems, practice CLEP exams and a variety of study guides. With the right frame of mind, any student can go into an exam with all the tools needed to pass and succeed.

Should a student?s college accept the CLEP program, he or she should seriously contemplate taking an exam during Winter Break. Although this time is generally reserved for relaxing, it can provide a wonderful opportunity to knock out some college courses in a short amount of time. In order to be successful on any CLEP exam, the student truly needs to be motivated and serious about wanting to take the test. The student needs to consider how much effort they want to exert in order to lessen their class load and lower their expenses. Given that the drive is there, the college credits should just start rolling in.
