Employment can be of various kinds and can be in diverse field of work. Some kind of employment needs skills while others merely manual labor. According to ones capacity as well as requirements one takes up jobs. Employment not only caters to the financial needs of an individual but also provides the much needed stimulus of self-dependence, independence that helps a person to progress in his life with his head held high.

Essentially employment is the act of providing labor, time, or service to another in return for a salary or materials as the case may be. While some may even take up self-employment, the prospect of being employed by another entity with a regularity of job is more appealing to some. Self employment may be preferred because of the drawbacks that may accompany a salaried job. Nevertheless, which ever kind of job one opts for, no one can deny the importance of employment in one?s life. It helps build up one?s lever of confidence, maturity and the sense of self-worth in an individual. Even children take up jobs to cater to their limited needs, in other words to add to their pocket money. This exercise is a great self-building one which teaches the child of the importance of earning one?s own bread and also teaches him responsibility. Students also take up employment for similar reasons.

The government of the day also takes steps towards employment generation so as to include as many possible citizens in the ambit of its programmes so that no one is left out of the benefits of employment. Self help groups, NGOs, government companies, private sector companies, the government itself, as well as several other institutions offer employment to citizens and foreigners alike. Individuals also start their own enterprise to cater to their needs as well as provide opportunities of employment to others in the community.

There are several ways of income generation through employment process and working at home is also a concept that has been carried on through generations. People are also quite inclines to working from the comfort of their home for various reasons. The idea of being one?s own boss is quite attractive for people.

One among the several issues that people who are for some reason against being employed talk about, especially those advocating for staying at home and parenting, are the possible hidden costs of working outside. Like for example, commuting, eating out, buying clothes, conveniences that one can avail of which might be quite heavy on one?s pocket.
